About Me

Andrew Horman

My name is Andrew Horman, and I’m a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern based in San Antonio, Texas. I’m currently completing my master’s degree at Our Lady of the Lake University, where I’ve spent the past five years steadily working toward graduation—one class at a time. That pace reflects more than academic commitment; it reflects survival, resilience, and purpose. I began this journey while recovering in a nursing home after a near-death experience due to infection. Navigating life from a wheelchair, I’ve had to balance physical recovery, housing constraints tied to Social Security, and the realities of rebuilding my life with intention and grit.

My lived experience fuels my passion for inclusive, trauma-informed care. I work with individuals facing depression, grief, anxiety, caregiver stress, and disability-related challenges—always centering dignity, autonomy, and access. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and mindfulness-based strategies, with a strengths-based lens that honors each client’s story.

I’m also developing a therapeutic framework called motif mapping, which helps clients explore personal meaning through symbolic reframing and narrative insight. This approach grew from my own healing process and reflects my belief that therapy should be creative, accessible, and deeply personal.

Outside of counseling, I work part-time in a call center, where I mentor peers and integrate trauma-informed leadership into everyday practice. I also find joy in karaoke—even if I can’t carry a tune, I bring the energy. That joy, like my work, is rooted in connection.

Whether I’m in session, writing, or collaborating on new ideas, my goal is to challenge assumptions, spark dialogue, and help reimagine mental health care—especially for those whose voices have too often been overlooked.
